A technically advanced and sustainable product that challenges conventional building standards and materials currently used for thatched roof ridging.
ACM ridging is manufactured from a reinforced composite material, which is durable and lightweight, with a high strength to weight ratio.
This material, as an architectural application, has been used extensively throughout South Africa, Europe and Australia for external statues and Object d ’art, since 1988.
In all instances, weathering has been observed as being similar to that of natural stone. ACM ridging is easy to install and the unique design allows for:
- The installation of a water sprinkler system, if required, to limit the spread of fire.
- The gutter design allows for the introduction of a purpose-made skylight unit, at any point along the ridging.

This is a precision manufactured product and does not accommodate the sagging of thatched roofs, nor thickness variations of the thatching, arising from poor workmanship.
The roof construction and the thatching layer must be even and level. The units are manufactured with built-in fixing lugs and fixing wires need to be added before installation.
All units are manufactured with a gutter-joint on the one side. The gutter-joint of the last unit to be installed needs to be cut off, ensuring a consequential fit. The length of the last unit must be measured on the ridge after all the units are in position, including both end units.
Units must be cut to size on site with an electrical hand grinder. |
A repair kit is available if units need to be joined or repaired on site. The setting and hardening of the material takes approximately 45 minutes, and the unit should not be installed before the material has completely hardened.
